Lieutenant Colonel Andrew J. VanderZiel

Lt Col Andrew J VanderZiel is the Commander, 299th Network Operations Security Squadron, Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell AFB, Kansas. Lt Col VanderZiel commands the 88 Airman assigned and operationally leads the 172 personnel contributing to the NOSS.  The 299 NOSS operates the Cyber Security and Control System, providing full spectrum network management and network defense for the Air National Guard provisioned portion of the Department of Defense Information Network.

Lt Col VanderZiel initially entered the Washington Air National Guard in May 1997 as a services journeyman.  A graduate of Dakota State University, Boise State University, and the University of Idaho, he was commissioned at the Academy of Military Science. Lt Col VanderZiel has 20 years of military service, and has been a full time member of the Air National Guard since 2004. He began as a Services Officer in the Washington Air National Guard and served as Executive Officer for both the 141st Support Group and 141st Mission Support Group, before transferring to 262d Information Warfare Aggressor Squadron as a Cyber Network Operations Officer.  In 2006 he joined the Kansas Air National Guard and continued to execute more than 30 Cyber Red Team missions as a full time member.  His positions include Team Lead, Technical Lead and Mission Commander, Chief of Standards and Evaluation, and NOSS Commander.  Prior to his current position, the Lieutenant Colonel was the Director of Operations at the 299 NOSS, Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell AFB.

 

Colonel Chris A. Snyder

Colonel Chris A. Snyder is the Commander of the 184th Cyber Operations Group, Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas.  The group’s mission is to deliver freedom of action in and through cyberspace to advance Air National Guard and Air Force missions. Col. Snyder ensures over 300 Airmen, civilians and contractors are trained and ready for operations supporting the Air National Guard, Air Force, Department of Defense agencies, combatant commanders and the state of Kansas. As the execution arm of Air National Guard network operations, the group oversees the operations, maintenance and defense of the Air National Guard portion of the Department of Defense Information Network. The group also provides electronic systems security assessments to improve operational security for the Air Force and joint partners. 

Col. Snyder enlisted in the Kansas Air National Guard in 1991. He graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and subsequently received his commission through the Academy of Military Science in 1996. After completion of Undergraduate Air Battle Manager Training, he served as a traditional guardsman maintaining multiple ABM crew qualifications, before becoming a full-time guardsman in 2004. He cross-trained into Cyber Operations in 2007 and has held several leadership positions, including command at the squadron and group level. Col. Snyder’s tactical experience includes multiple contingency operation deployments in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle.
